2018 PROJECT 4/6 →
This independent project was created as a part of a 14 week exploration project in Berlin, Germany. Perhaps it’s because of its heavy historical burden that Berlin is throwing itself into tomorrow with such contagious energy. Yet despite its often hectic pace, Berlin functions on an exquisitely human scale. In Berlin, health and wellness is a movement led by the new generation who are re-thinking how it integrates in every aspect of their daily lives.
Run as far as I can in every direction possible. The first step is to get to know the city, its personality and flow to discover its unique traits and the everyday people who curate the city.
Asking the people who know Berlin inside and out. What does Flaschenärten look like to you?
During the summer, Berlin is an eclectic urban playground interwoven into lush greenery. In the winter it becomes insular and self reflective. It is a city that is both intense yet refreshingly open. It is a city that lives in its history but searches for the future. It is home to diverse people who constantly redefine the city. From all points of view, Berlin is a representation of balance.
The identity of Flaschengärten is a reflection of its beliefs. Our story begins with balance, the balance in your everyday life and the cycles that go with them. The two halves of a perfect circle represents the self, and the care. Which together, creates harmony through balance.
CONTRARIAN IDEAS ARE BORN IN KREUZBERG ->
FINDING A LOCATION
As a neighbourhood founded on anti-establishment values, Kreuzberg refuses to lose its rebellious nature. Bursting with quirk, active citizen initiatives and community projects, it is always down to experiment and to try something new. Kreuzberg has always been the longstanding embodiment of the spirit of Berlin. The site is located in the heart of Kreuzberg. It is a unrestored warehouse that was once occupied by a car rental company. The space features an open facade that allows plenty of natural lighting. It is currently used for temporary venues such as concerts, creative exhibitions, and conferences.
BRAND ECOSYSTEM ->
TRANSLATING SPACE TO PRODUCT
The Flaschengärten vessel is like bringing a piece of the space home. It is designed as a reflection of the form language of the space. In building these prototypes, I took ceramic classes at a local studio, where I met an artist and collaborated with her to create each unique piece of the line.
